"Pigtale is one of those books that fall out of the sky and you have to wonder, 'Where the hell did THIS guy come from? And I mean that in the best possible where-have-you-been-all-my-life kind of way. This guy is, simply put, incredible--and I've got a strong feeling about this one. Generally, when that happens--it's a book that catches readers and retailers by surprise and they come back at me a few months later and say to me, 'why didn't you TELL ME this was going to be good?' well, we do--and we will. And like Flight, Ultra, The Walking Dead, Firebreather and Invincible before it--I think readers and retailers alike are simply going to fall in love with this book. Seriously folks--this book is outstanding and you'll never stop kicking yourself if you miss it. This guy is GOOD,"

"Ovi Nedelcu has my jaw dropping with his work on PIGTALE. He's managed to do something that is very rare these days in American comic books-- and that is to have a visual voice that is all his own. I'm blown away by the style Ovi had created for this book-- it's like nothing I've ever seen. With lines that are sharp as diamonds, yet fluid like water; deceptively simple figure work supported by incredibly fully realized backgrounds; stylization combined with natural body language-- PIGTALE is a visual feast and a wonder to behold. BRAVO, Ovi-- I can't wait to see more!"

"I just had the pleasure of reading the first issue of Ovi Nedelcu's PIGTALE. What can I say? Great art, intriguing story and a talking pig for Pete's sake! Sign me up, I'm sold!"

"Ovi Nedelcu's PIGTALE is a great example of great design combined with simple storytelling. It gets better with each page! I can't wait to see the rest of the story!"

"As a comic book buyer I'm easy. If the artwork is good, I step in and take in the sights. If the story is half-way decent, I stay a little longer. If the storytelling is strong--that is, the way the story is told, separate from regarding its content--then I have to buy it.

Ovi Nedelcu's Pigtale has all of the above. The overall design of the book is like that of an animated property: Characters are well done and singularly consistent; the staging of scenes recalls the spare style of Chuck Jones, and mixed in with strong cinematography (that last one is sorely missing in most comics--or overdone and calling undue attention to itself). Very well done here. The pacing of the book is vibrant and artwork is clean and clear.

The story though is transparent and shuffles through set-ups apace. The lead character has less dimensions than the excellent drawings can help. Boston, an unfortunate underachieving hero is also saddled with an extant father's career and likely he's nothing like the old man. Boston is also a good guy pining for the unattainable good babe, who in turn finds his pedestrian good heart is just what babes with good hearts fall for. I love a good-natured romance but these two are already meant for each other, no waiting. He even gets to punch out the bad boys manhandling his date, as all heroes with good hearts do. But let's not forget the book's title has the word "Pig" in it. Clear the deck, exposition T.V. newscast: scientists can now make animals talk, pigs even. The bad boys give chase and is dispatched but now he is right in place for an explosion in the aforementioned scientist's labs where our good lad is the first on the scene--to discover the reason for the book's title.

Conveniences like these are good used sparingly and it is hoped that in the future issues the characters take over with more life than the outward plot will allow."

"Ovi's masterful draughtsmanship renders the heartfelt yearnings of new love and the stomach churning rush of the scooter chase into a not-so-quaint vision of Portland, Oregon, where pigs can do amazing things."

"Don't shoot! Please! Get me out of here! QUICK!"
"What detective would expect a pig to say such a thing? Boston Booth does… now, at the very least. This is the only a glimpse of what to expect in Pigtale.

Ovi Nedelcu's first installment of his comic book, Pigtale, sets the pace of a rather eclectic story of the young detective Booth's exploits in the city of Portland, Oregon. The book, which is a rather fresh spin on the classic detective novels, has storytelling that is in tune with some of today's crop of writer/directors (Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, and Robert Rodriguez to name a few). The dialogue becomes just as important to the overall feel of the story as the plot and even tells a tale all its own. You can easily get into and identify with the characters just by the dialogue, especially the protagonist Booth.

The artwork, however, may be the best part of this book. Done in classic black and white, which brings another similarity to the old detective novels and movies, Nedelcu's clean and animated style draws the audience in. The page and panel layout makes the audience feel as if you were watching a movie than reading a comic book. His character designs bring another layer of eccentricity to the story that will make this book even more recognizable.

Overall, if the first issue of Pigtale is any indication of things to come, our young detective will have a more interesting time than any other (especially one in tights) will have."

"In a medium of infinite possibilities, we see few creators that come along willing to explore what can be done with comicbooks.Ovi Nedelcu is one of those creators and Pigtale is just one of those books. Nedelcu utilizes all the elements the comic book medium has to offer a creator. He pushes the possibilties of design, composition, pacing and value to deliver a pretty good romp of a tale. Pigtale is a book that invites people of all ages to come in and get to know a good pal like Boston, a cutie like Carmen and that strange looking pig (whatever his name is..).I, for one, can't wait to see where Nedelcu's going to take us."

"Its Beautifull man. Great draftsmanship and apealing design. Beautifull compositions that completely compliment the design of the characters and the environments. The visual pacing was great. All the staging is really nice and clear and there is some really fun, inventive visual storytelling going on man. I dig the characters story. I can't wait to see whats next! I'm sold."

"Ovi is one of the most talented artists I've come across in my 10 years in the animation industry. There aren't many people that can paint, draw and and design with his ability (check out his awesome website if you need more proof). Ovi rocks and so does Pigtale. Pigtale is going to make me a fan of comics again. Thanks for bringing me back."

"I first became aware of Ovi Nedelcu's "Pigtale" from some panels from the comic book that were posted on AnimationNation.com as he was endeavoring to finish the work. I was impressed with the quality of the graphics and read the comic online. Having been previously aware of Ovi's strong artistic skills, particularly in character design, I was further surprised by the level of excellence in the artwork exhibited in Pigtale. His layouts are meticulous and precise.
There's a lot of talent behind the hand that created this work and it's obvious that he applied himself in earnest. The art is appealing and
interesting to look at and the overall design of the graphics keeps the eye entertained without getting the characters lost in the detail of the composition.

The story is fun and easy to follow. My biggest criticism is that perhaps the exposition of the central character in the last frame of this first issue could have been more enigmatic. In a way, I would have preferred keeping his appearance a mystery until the beginning of issue #2. Maybe that's just me and the way I would have handled the revelation as I don't think that it will make or break the comic, but I believe that some degree of enhanced drama at that point would have been beneficial to an already fine start with this new publication.
Looking forward to seeing the premise develop and the story continue, and looking forward to more of the excellent artwork that will go along with it."

"Ovi Nedelcu's art is absolutely gorgeous. He brings to comics an animated style that reminds me of Chuck Jones: simple -- I might say "deceptively simple" -- but conveying nuanced emotion in every glance and gesture. I love looking at this stuff."

"I just finished reading the first issue you sent me and I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from the first few pages. Boston Booth is a cool character and I'm sure many people will immediately relate to him.
I thought the whole comic flowed effortlessly. It was very well paced. The dialogue was fun and genuine. The artwork was strong and animated. I could practically see it moving in some cases! I'm intrigue by the cliffhanger... I want to see more!
Great Job! I see the making of a very good series!"

"In Pigtale, Ovi Nedelcu's strong compositions anchor his story of a gumshoe detective wannabe struggling with love and unemployment, with a fresh approach. His tale of the tough guy who makes his way around the urban jungle of Portland on a scooter, revealing his love struck soul, dealing with job rejection and scooter chases, will keep readers attention. His pacing takes time to introduce us to his main character's mind and mood. The villain is waiting in the shadows of the final chapter of this first issue, leaving the reader with a whiff of anticipation. Many readers will think, "yeah, I can relate to that."

"As a person in the creative industry, I was impressed by the talent of Ovi Nedelcu from an overall creative standpoint. His artistic sense and aesthetic is transparent through every page of this incredible tale.. i should say, "Pigtale". His dynamic use of contrast in his illustrations to explain a fabulous and compelling story is second to none. Ovi Nedelcu has hit a bulls eye with this creation!"

I had no idea what to expect with Pigtale. I had heard a lot about it from a variety of sources and most of them had claimed that the series would be the "the next big thing" in the comic medium. Naturally, I was curious of what Pigtale. had to offer and wanted to know if this series, if any series, could live up to what I had heard.

Creator Ovi Nedelcu's work on the series is actually quite good. While reading this first issue I was immediately struck by the resemblance to a lot of artwork in the recent Image anthology Flight. Creators working on Flight also tended to have, for the most part, a style of illustration that looked as though it was inspired by a Pixar/Disney movie. Just gorgeously illustrated "cartoony" style of drawing that perfectly captures the emotions, expressions and feelings of the characters. It's extremely easy to empathize with Boston because of Nedelcu's expressive facial renderings and use of body language.

What surprised me the most about Pigtale was that Ovi Nedelcu was able to astound me with his ability to draw action sequences. There is a scooter chase scene in Pigtale's first issue that was simply amazing. There is one panel in particular that had me saying "Awesome" as I read it. It takes a lot for me to verbalize a reaction to a comic but Nedelcu was able to do it. It's a heart-stopping sequence with inspired angles and a great sense of speed. This scene along is reason enough to buy this issue.

The artwork is obviously the strongest aspect of this series. However, that alone doesn't determine a great series. Pigtale. also features a surprisingly solid story. We are introduced to Boston, his life, his goals, his desires and even what is sure to be, judging from the title of the book, the other main character of Pigtale. There is a lot of set-up in this initial issue but Ovi Nedelcu's able to keep it all together without any of it overwhelming the reader or seeming rushed. Everything comes at a natural pace and nothing is thrown in just to have it introduced; not even a little surprise on the final page.

While not revolutionizing the comic medium Pigtale does offer a very good first issue. It touches on a variety of emotions within these first twenty-two pages, everything from humor, drama, action and romance. There is something for everyone in This reviewer found himself enjoying it immensely and I think that a lot of people are going to find themselves wanting to read more about Boston Booth Jr and his adventures in Pigtale.

BUY PIGTALE.

I don't know about you, but lately I've been bored with most funnybooks. Even outside of the Big Two, there hasn't been a lot that made me think: "Holy crap! THAT's original!". Usually it's just a semi-clever twist on an old idea.

Pigtale is the exact opposite. In an era where we claim everythings been done before Ovi Nedeclu shows (in his DEBUT) that we're just beginning.

I've never seen art quite like his. Sure, you can see his influences, but Ovi's smart enough not to emulate those that have come before him. He's created something NEW.

I can't remember the last time I've read/watched/etc. anything quite like this. It's one part humor, two parts detective, one more part romance, and... well, read the damn thing.
